In the latest SmartCitiesWorld podcast, news editor Sue Weekes talks to Maria Shiao of Fotech about the opportunities distributed acoustic sensing technology can bring to cities to expand their use of fibre.

Distributed acoustic sensing technology (DAS) converts fibre in the ground into millions of sensors that can monitor what is going on in a city 24/7. The momentum behind this emerging technology is rapidly building. It can spawn a range of smart city applications in areas such as traffic management and asset monitoring. For telecom operators, DAS can provide another way of monetising assets, while it can also create business opportunities for new entrants into the smart city ecosystem. To find out more, SmartCitiesWorld talks to Fotech’s Maria Shiao
